Biophysicist, cultural councilor of the municipality of Genoa from 1997 to 2002, he has long been invited as a visiting professor at universities and research institutes in Italy and abroad.
He got a PhD in Theoretical Physics in 1968, he was part of the National Research Council in 1970, and of the National Science Foundation Florida State University from 1970 to 1972, Max Planck Institute Tubingen from 1972 to 1976, California Institute of Technology from 1976 to 1980, University of Calgary from 1980 to 1982, University of Toronto 1982-1986, Toronto Scarborough College from 1986 to 1990, University of Toronto from 1990 to 1994, University of Pennsylvania from 1990 to 1997, UCLA University of California Los Angeles, Virginia Tech, Washington DC 1998-2002, University of Western Ontario 2002-2004, Dizraeli Ottawa School of Architecture from 2004 to 2009.
He is currently professor at the University of Genoa School of Architecture.
He has published books in Italy with Einaudi, Bollati-Boringhieri, Laterza, Archinto RCS, Electa, Boringhieri. Abroad with Plenum Press, Elsevier, De Gruyter, SUPSI.
Publications in international journals are about 200.
