Time, shape and image are three access keys to architecture, valuable for those who today join the road that already Vittorio Ugo (Palermo 1938-2005) traced, over three decades, with his research and his teaching. This book is a compilation of reflections this themes accrued by many scholars and submitted to the Study Day in his honor held in March 2007 at the Department of Architectural Design at the Politecnico di Milano. His legacy, still alive in the people who knew him, is here revived by his friends with the intention of reflecting on his researches: to treasure it and found future work on it, to reflect where possible “the passing of the baton” from his work, to make his person known with contributions from the disciplines he studied. The book is about “the places where architecture is recognizable and the places it produces, then of physical but also literary living spaces”; thus it offers a variety of looks ranging from architectural theory to design, from representation to mathematics, from history to philosophy and aesthetics. The texts are by: Angelo Ambrosi, Amedeo Bellini, Marco Biraghi, Luigi Cocchiarella, Giancarlo Consonni, Gianni Contessi, Franco De Faveri, Roberto de Rubertis, Elio Franzini, Elisa Guagenti, Giovanna A. Massari, Uzushi Nakamura, Pierluigi Panza, Fulvio Papi, Philippe Potié, Alberto Pratelli, Franco Purini, Fabio Quici, Andrea Rolando, Joseph Rykwert, Rossella Salerno, Ken-ichi Sasaki, Antonio Somaini.
